Procedure
Guru–Gayatri-Sadhana has six steps.
Step 1: Reciting Gurumandala Namavali
By this process the Sadhaka will be connected with the Gurumandala which will enable connectivity, eligibility and capacity for the Sadhaka to perform their Sadhana.
Step 2: Reciting Agastiya Moola Mantra
Agastiya is the Maha Guru who attained the state of eternal Supreme Consciousness. He is the Maha Guru of our lineage who direct all the Sadhakas who perform the Guru Agastiya Gayatri Sadhana. This step establishes the connection with Agastiya’s illuminated body (Maha Karana Sareeram).
Step 3: doing Gayatri Sankalpa
The Gayatri Mantra finetunes the Sadhaka’s inner progress with the evolution of the universe. Therefore before reciting the Gayatri Mantra, the Sadhaka has to understand what the eternal goal of the Gayatri Mantra Sadhana is. The Gayatri Sankalpa will align the Sadhaka toward universe’s eternal righteousness (Dharma). When the Sadhaka’s mind is in alignment with Dharma, benefits attained through recitation of Gayatri Mantra will be manifold.
Step 4: Reciting Gayatri Mantra
Gayatri mantra is the supreme most mantra in the Agastiya Siddha tradition. Agastiya Maharishi in his work named Agastiya Poorana Sutram (verse no. 80) states ‘Gayatri is one of the primary tools for attainment of perfection in Yoga Sadhana. Without Gayatri, higher levels of Siddha Yoga cannot be acheived’.
When one gets initiated through the lineage and sincerely continues their Sadhana, it will give immense benefits. The aim of life is defined by Siddhas and Rishis as Dharma (virtue), Artha (material wealth), Kama (pleasure) and Moksha (final goal of liberation). This Sadhana will lead to the attainment of all these four goals of life.
Gayatri is known as a prayer mantra these days. This mantra was nonetheless used by Siddhas of the esoteric tradition to attain higher states of Yoga Sadhana. In our Agastiya Kula (the family of Agastiya), this knowledge was revealed as Gayatri Gupta Vignanam (The esoteric science of Gayatri.
This wisdom is available to sincere seekers who follow the tradition. When a Sadhaka starts to recite the Gayatri mantra, in the first step, they attain purity of mind and body. Then they start to develop the strength of prana. Thereafter they will start to develop the power of intellect. Finally, the higher level of Gayatri Sadhana will give perfection in Yogic practices.
Step 5: Gayatri Chitta Sadhana
Chitta is the place where all the sensory impressions (Samskaras) get stored. The impressions are received through five sense doors (eye, ear, tongue, nose and skin) in our day to day life. These impressions accumulate and cause rigidity in Chitta which in turn limit our perceptions. These limited perceptions will prevent one from bringing out their eternal potential and realizing the self’s true divine nature. If a Sadhaka starts their Sadhana with the influence of such old Samskaras, they will fail to get the intended results of the Sadhana. Hence for the Sadhaka to succeed in their endeavor, he or she has to register new Samskaras conducive for the Sadhana in the Chitta.
This step will store in the Sadhaka’s chitta the impressions required for the awakening of these divine qualities. Each syllable of the Gayatri mantra has the power or potential to awaken particular divine qualities in Sadhaka.
Western psychology refers to this part of the mind – Chitta – as subconscious mind. However, according to Yogic philosophy, this is the most conscious and precious part of the mind which is the source of all wisdom. The Tamil Siddhas are the ones that attained perfection of Chitta through Sadhana.
Step 6: Prayers
A Sadhaka may aspire to achieve higher states. However he or she must first have the happiness and pleasure in their life so that they could continue the Sadhana life without any worries. The tradition speaks of 16 boons that one needs to possess in order to lead a happy life. In this step, the Sadhaka seeks these boons so that he or she could achieve prosperity in their life and have peace.
This booklet is intended for aspiring Sadhakas who wish to practice this Sadhana. It contains detailed instructions which should be followed in conjunction with further direct instructions from the teacher.
